Marma
Treatment
What is marma therapy?
Marma points are vital energy points located at the surface of the body, they are vulnerable points that can help you experience a deeper state of relaxation and can help to calm and settle the mind.
The vital points are connected to different functions, organs and channels in our body aswell as the doshas. They are also deeply connected to the nervous system which is governed by prana (life force energy). The marma points can be found all over the body and are in total 107.
According to the yogic tradition there are 72 000 energy pathways in our system which are called nadis. By stimulating the marma points you allow prana to move from the local point through the nadis to a organ that the specific point is connected to.
The prana, our life force energy is suppose to flow freely within us. When there is a blockage somewhere in our system the marma point connected to this area can feel more sensitive or painful. While treating the marma points you can say it works as a way of diagnosis, and at the same time it is treating the area connected to the specific point.
While there are many suggestions of the physical impacts marma therapy can have on your skin and lymphatic system etc. I choose to describe it from this perspective, how it can help our overall wellbeing from the inside out, where I believe all true wellbeing starts from.
The treatment
The treatment I offer is focused on treating the upper part of the body (head, face, ears and neck). I also massage both of your hands and treat points located there. The treatment ends with a gentle massage of your spine.
You don’t have to take off any clothes for the treatment, only jewelry and anything on the arms are suggested to be removed for a soothing treatment experience. Sesame oil is used on the upper body and hands, according to the ayurvedic teaching sesame oil is good for the nervous system.
